This delicious apple cake recipe is packed with juicy apples and spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. Ideal for fall or any time you crave a comforting dessert!

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 3 cups peeled and diced apples

For the Topping:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round or square baking pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with sour cream, until combined. Fold in diced apples.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the batter.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool before serving.
