Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups (300g) orzo pasta
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and garlic; sauté until soft and fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  • Once the beef is browned, stir in the crushed tomatoes and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Pour in the beef broth and orzo. Cook until the orzo is tender and the liquid is mostly absorbed.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and grated Parmesan before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken or vegetable broth for beef broth.
  • For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
  • Adjust the crushed red pepper flakes according to your heat preference.
