Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes bring together the best of both worlds: the flavors of a traditional Philly cheesesteak and the comforting texture of a sloppy joe. Made with ground beef, onions, bell peppers, and melted provolone cheese, this easy recipe is a quick and hearty dinner perfect for busy weeknights. Serve on toasted buns for an irresistible meal the whole family will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Butter for toasting buns (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the diced onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute.
  • Sprinkle flour over the mixture, stirring to combine, and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Gradually add the beef broth and let the mixture simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  • Place the provolone cheese over the beef mixture and allow it to melt.
  • Toast the hamburger buns with butter if desired, and spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns.
  • Serve hot, with optional sides like fries or a salad.

Notes

For a lower-carb option, serve the mixture over lettuce or in a lettuce wrap. You can also swap ground beef for ground turkey for a leaner version.
