This Shrimp Dirty Rice recipe is a bold and savory dish with Cajun-seasoned shrimp, rice, and vegetables. A perfect one-pot meal for busy nights!

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 lb ground sausage or ground beef
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Cook rice according to package instructions using chicken broth for extra flavor. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat butter or oil over medium heat. Add sausage or ground beef and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic until softened.
  • Add shrimp and cook until pink, about 2-3 minutes. Stir in Cajun seasoning, paprika, thyme, cayenne, salt, and black pepper.
  • Return cooked sausage to the skillet and mix well.
  • Add cooked rice and stir until well combined. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust spice levels by increasing or reducing cayenne pepper.
  • Use brown rice for a healthier alternative.
  • Swap shrimp with chicken or tofu for a variation.
