Optional additions like bacon or parmesan add extra flavor. Perfect for holidays or any cozy dinner, this dish combines rich ingredients into a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • Fresh green beans (1 ½ lbs, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces)
  • Butter (2 tbsp)
  • Mushrooms (8 oz, sliced)
  • Garlic (2 cloves, minced)
  • All-purpose flour (2 tbsp)
  • Chicken or vegetable broth (1 cup)
  • Heavy cream (1 cup)
  • Soy sauce (1 tsp)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • French’s fried onions (1 ½ cups)
  • Optional: Grated parmesan (¼ cup), Bacon (4 slices, cooked and crumbled)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Blanch green beans in boiling water for 3-4 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté mushrooms and garlic until soft.
  • Sprinkle in flour, stir, and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in broth, then cream and soy sauce. Simmer until thickened.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Toss the green beans in the sauce, then transfer to a baking dish.
  • Top with fried onions (and optional parmesan or bacon). Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • Make sure to blanch the green beans before baking to ensure they stay tender.
  • For extra crispiness, add half the fried onions halfway through baking and the rest on top for the final minutes.
